CarvanaCares recently supported DSF Werks, a nonprofit that provides underserved young adults and emancipated foster youth with hands-on automotive training and a community to belong to. Carvana donated $10,000 and two wholesale vehicles to help the organization continue its work.

What is DSF Werks?

DSF Werks is a nonprofit and mentorship program founded in 2019 to serve underserved young adults ages 18 to 24, with a focus on those transitioning out of the foster care system.

The idea began with a simple observation. Young adults leaving foster care often need more than job training. They need relationships and a community that shows up for them. DSF Werks was built around both.

Participants work alongside experienced mentors on automotive restoration and mechanical repair. Interns and apprentices learn the trade, but the program’s larger focus is on the skills that carry into any career: problem-solving, communication, confidence and leadership.

Why Carvana supported DSF Werks

Carvana’s support of DSF Werks began as a Passion Project. Passion Projects are how Carvana team members put their own time and hands-on effort behind causes they care about, with the company’s backing.

DSF Werks was a natural fit. Carvana understands the importance of skilled trades and the ongoing need for people who have them. Skilled trades keep the automotive industry running, and there is a shortage of skilled workers available to meet that need. At Carvana, we see that need firsthand as we hire hundreds of team members across the country, including in technical and skilled roles.

What began as an employee Passion Project has since grown through CarvanaCares, Carvana’s community impact program, in recognition of the value DSF Werks gives back to its community. Carvana is supporting DSF Werks with a donation of $10,000 and two wholesale vehicles to help train young people in automotive and trade skills and build the confidence to pursue what’s next.
